What is Autism ?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how an individual reacts with the world around them. It is characterised by difficulties with social interaction and communication, as well as unusual and repetitive behaviours.

There are several underlying causes that lead to a disconnect between the inner self (Atma) and the mind (Manas). This disruption affects the channels of consciousness (Manovaha Srotas). Additionally, an imbalance in the three bodily energies (Doshas) – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – results in the onset of a disturbed mental state (Unmada).

In simple terms, various factors cause a split between one’s true self and the mind. This disturbance, along with an imbalance in the body’s natural energies, manifests as autism. Though there’s no such reason of why autism happens, potential contributing factors may include:

  • Causes
  • Symptoms
  • Genetics
  •  Certain gene mutations
  • Advanced parental age
  •  Exposure to pollutants during pregnancy
  • Complications during pregnancy or birth
  •  Brain development differences
  •  Immune system issues during pregnancy
  • Excessive stress & screen time during pregnancy
  • Consumption of unhealthy food and irregular diet of mother
  • Pre and post-pregnancy depression
  • Social interaction and communication difficulties:
  •  Repetitive body movements or motions
  • Strict adherence to routines and resistance to change
  • Highly restricted interests or fixations on certain topics
  • Sensory sensitivities to sounds, textures, tastes, smells, or lights
  • Delayed speech development or complete lack of speech
  • Monotone or flat speech pattern
  • Repeating words or phrases (echolalia)
  • Difficulty understanding simple questions or directions
  • Difficulty with abstract thinking and problem-solving
  • Difficulty expressing or understanding emotions
  • Lack of empathy or difficulty understanding others’ perspectives

Autism Support Program

Kids with autism often lack observation, understanding and awareness abilities. At Sree Prathama Ayurvedam, our autism support program aims to help develop and improve these core skills through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary ayurvedic approach tailored to each child’s needs which also helps in speech delay.

Dr. Santhisree Bheesetti follows a 4-pillar protocol to help parents understand autism, its underlying causes, and how our integrated ayurvedic treatments can address those root issues to improve the child’s cognitive, social, and behavioral development.

The program aims to restore balance to the body and mind, which can help alleviate the symptoms associated with autism and improve speech. The goal is to support the child’s overall health, development, and well-being by addressing the symptoms holistically.

Our Autism Support Program

The procedure begins with an initial assessment to monitor progress and make adjustments. We then perform an Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis (Nadi Pariksha) to identify imbalances in each child and select appropriate therapies.

Based on the results of Nadi Pariksha, Dr Santhisree Bheesetti provides a comprehensive treatment plan based on the 4 pillars of the treatment program.

Pillar 1: Panchakarma Treatment

Panchakarma is a set of a number of detoxification procedures in Ayurveda aimed at eliminating deep-rooted toxins (ama) from the body. Panchakarma therapy  helps in removing toxins that may contribute to the condition and its associated symptoms of autism and other neurological disorders.

Duration: 40 Days (as per the Doctor’s suggestion)

Pillar 2: Internal Medication

For internal medication, we have in-house made Ayurvedic formulations tailored to each child’s condition. These herbal compounds aim to balance the doshas (biological energies) and address underlying imbalances contributing to autism symptoms. The specific internal medications will be prescribed based on the individual child’s needs as determined by our Ayurvedic practitioner.

Duration: 1-3 Year (Depends on the symptoms)

Pillar 3: Dietary Modifications

While internal medicines and ayurvedic therapies are crucial, dietary modifications have an essential role in making a big difference in a kid’s overall health. We provide a diet chart including what to eat and avoid, based on the symptoms of the kid to provide them with proper nutrition.

Pillar 4: Parent Support

We provide ongoing support to parents and kids including educating and training them on implementing home therapy, dietary changes, and lifestyle practices.
